Introduction A great many add-ins exist for use with Microsoft Outlook that are capable of doing a number of very useful, and sometimes vital functions. NEO is a MAPI compliant third-party add-in for Outlook, which may interact with other third-party add-ins or COM add-ins that are loaded with Outlook.
It is not possible to exhaustively test for interactions between NEO and all potential add-ins that a user may choose to install with Outlook, though some testing has been undertaken on select add-ins specific to reported problems.
Description We are in the process of investigating several reported add-in interactions. It is possible that interactions that appear to stem from NEO are actually the result of improperly initialized COM Add-Ins or interactions between two other add-ins rather than interactions relating to NEO specifically. The following is a list of add-ins with reported or known interactions with NEO that we are currently investigating:
AutoMate: Automate interferes with NEO's send/receive button. Send/receives do not occur from NEO when AutoMate is running. The AutoMate Toolbar does not appear in Outlook when NEO is open.
Business Contact Manager (BCM): MAPI error 80004002-F04. Currently the only solution to this problem is to disable or remove Business Contact Manager from Outlook.
Getting Things Done (GTD): Message moves handled by GTD create directionally challenged messages in NEO. Sent messages may be misinterpreted as received and received messages misinterpreted as sent.
Google Desktop Search: NEO performance is affected by real-time indexing.
GroupFolders: NEO may not function against GroupFolders.
Iomega Automatic Backup: Results in slow NEO performance during start-up, synchronization and other operations.
Lookout Desktop search: NEO performance is affected by real-time indexing.
Mailspeak: Disables Outlook automation. Error 80010105-02 triggered on NEO reply, forward, reply all. Just unchecking Mailspeak from Outlook/tools/options/other/advanced options/'add-in manager' re-enables Outlook objects within NEO. A full uninstall of Mailspeak is not necessary, so if you use it, but only rarely, you can uncheck this extension until you need Mailspeak, at which point you can go in and recheck it.
Mail Washer: One report of NEO blocking switch to mail client from within MailWasher.
Microsoft Software Distribution Service 2.0: The presence of Microsoft Software Distribution Service 2.0 blocks NEO's ability to create a Catalog.
MSVDM (Microsoft Virtual Desktop Manager): Creates a Message List corruption in NEO.
Plan Plus: NEO has a adverse effect upon the PlanPlus 'priority task list'.
Public Share Folders: NEO may not function against Public Share Folders.
Spybot S&D / Adaware: May interfere with NEO forwarding messages. One report of a MAPI error 80010105-12 - 'The server threw an exception'.
VodaFone SMS or Text Centre: a 'Runtime error' occurs in NEO on shut down. Removing the Vodafone Add-In eliminates the error.
VFax: May not function with NEO. The interception of FAXes is hampered when a FAX message is sent from NEO rather than Outlook.
Window Blinds: Creates a number User Interface display problems from color problems to shifts of the NEO window behind the Windows Task Bar.
You Perform (formerly Sperry): NEO is interpreted as a second Outlook window by You Perform. The You Perform Toolbar does not appear in Outlook when NEO is open.
Resolution #1 If you perceive that an interaction is occurring between Outlook, NEO and other add-ins, please refer to Knowledge Base article T1106 for the suggested method of starting Outlook and NEO to avoid improper initialization of COM Add-Ins in Outlook, which may be at the root of the add-in dysfunction.
Resolution #2 If you perceive problems and you have a number of Add-ins and COM Add-Ins loaded with Outlook, you may want to test which add-in(s) is(are) at the heart of the issue. You can try to test whether NEO works if any Add-Ins are disabled (not removed).
Please do the following to test for COM add-ins:
Close NEO
If you haven't already (refer to Knowledge Base article T1106), start Outlook
Go to Outlook 'Tools | Options | Other tab | Advanced Options button | COM Add-In button' to see the add-in extensions
Uncheck (click on the check box) a suspect Add-In
Back out of the dialog boxes to Outlook using the 'OK' buttons on all dialogue boxes
Start NEO
Test if NEO is working properly when the specific Add-In is disabled.
You may do the following to test for ordinary add-ins such as Mailspeak:
Close NEO
If you haven't already (refer to Knowledge Base article T1106), start Outlook
Go to Outlook 'Tools | Options | Other tab | Advanced Options button | Add-In Manager button' to see the add-in extensions
Uncheck (click on the check box) a suspect Add-In
Back out of the dialog boxes to Outlook using the 'OK' buttons on all dialogue boxes
Start NEO
Test if NEO is working properly when the specific Add-In is disabled.
