How to make NEO work with Outlook if you used Netscape

Topic T1024 Applies to All NEO products

Problem

This a known Netscape problem. It probably arises because Netscape is your default client and it has 'MAPI-based applications' enabled in the Mail and Newsgroup preference window. Netscape replaces the standard Windows Mapi32.dll with its own, which is known to prevent other mail applications from working.

Resolution

To deselect MAPI within Netscape:
  1. Click on the Edit pull-down menu and choose "Preferences".
  2. In the Preferences window, click once on the "Mail and Newsgroups" category.
  3. Uncheck the box next to the statement "Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based applications". The old MAPI file will be put back.
After this, please make Outlook your default client, if it is not already so. Without doing this, NEO cannot run. Here's how:
  1. Close all mail-aware applications (NEO, Outlook, etc.).
  2. Click Start | Settings | Control Panel, then double-click .
  3. Click the tab along the top.
  4. In the E-mail list change the setting to Outlook Express and click Apply, then set it back to Microsoft Outlook and click Apply (this forces a full reset to Microsoft Outlook).
NEO should then work properly. If it does not ...
  1. Close Outlook.
  2. Locate a utility program on your computer called FIXMAPI.EXE. The easiest way to find it is to search for it with Windows Find. When found, double-click it to run it. It will probably run quickly and may not produce any visible results.
  3. Restart your computer.
  4. Start NEO.
